Welsh Open Sporting 2021

Welsh Sporting Open 2021

Dovey Valley Shooting Ground hosted the Welsh Sporting Open 2021 and made use of their impressive topography, utilising virgin ground for the first section of layouts, before moving into more familiar territory with stands around the clubhouse.

Martin Myers posted an early 93/100 – an impressive feat over such a challenging layout, with Jon Kendall matching his efforts a short while later.  Richard Hughes also posted a 93 towards the end of the day. However, Tim Simmons pipped them all with a superb 94/100 which could not be matched, giving him the well-deserved Welsh Sporting Open Title.

Jon Kendall and Richard Hughes were left to battle it out for Welsh High Gun, with Jon Kendall coming away the victor after a shoot-off.

Garry Davies and Ray Webb both scored 87/100 earning them the Veteran High Gun trophy and Super-Veteran High Gun trophy respectively.  Jacob O’Loughlin retained the Junior title with 74/100 and Janine White scooped the Ladies High Gun trophy with 75/100.

Great thanks and appreciation should go to each and every competitor on the day; as well as the staff at Dovey Valley; the all-important referees; and to Jonathan Williams and Richard Hughes for their time setting the targets.
