Sporting Home International 2022: King Keeble Reigns Supreme!

Jersey played host to this year’s 2022 Sporting Home International.

Josh Keeble proved his worth and earned himself a well-deserved victory with an incredible 98/100 to give him the coveted Overall International High Gun trophy as well as High Gun of Wales.

Richard Hughes also scored highly with a 95/100 to give him the Welsh Runners-up trophy.  Philip Patch performed well and put in a brilliant 91/100, earning third place overall in veterans after a shoot off with England’s Andy Moon.  Mike Lewis was Welsh Super-Veteran High Gun with 80/100.  Janine White’s 89/100 looked good in Ladies’ class for a while, but England’s Emma Stacey stormed away with 95/100, leaving Janine with Overall Ladies Runner-up.  Jacob O’Loughlin scored a commendable 89/100 to take Welsh Junior High Gun.

The teams jostled for prime position throughout the shoot, but Wales could not stop England’s clean sweep of the medals.  Wales’s Senior Team came close to winning gold, but finished runner-up to England after a closely fought battle, with 14 clays separating the two teams.  The Welsh Ladies Team came home with silver and the Veteran Team also performed well, finishing within two clays of the England Veterans.

Well done to all those who made the Sporting International Team this year and thank you to Jersey Clay Target Shooting Association for holding the event.

Huge thanks must go to Nicola Walker (Team Manager) and Richard Hughes (Sporting Rep), who will both be stepping down after 10 years of helping the WCTSA and supporting the Welsh Sporting and FITASC teams.  Janine White will also be stepping down as a Sporting/ FITASC rep at the end of the year.  All of their help and support is greatly appreciated and new Sporting and FITASC representatives are needed to fill their shoes.  A new team manager will also be required for next year’s International Sporting Team.  If you are interested in applying for any of these roles, please apply to the WCTSA Secretary at secretary@wctsa.co.uk by Friday 23rd September 2022.
