Saturday, February 22nd saw the eagerly awaited North vs South Skeet competition, held at North Wales Shooting School.
37 shooters got ready to shoot over 3 layouts, on a bright, dry day and after an introduction by NWSS’s Jeff Challinor, the first squads went out at 9.30.
After the first round, 6 maximum 25’s had been posted, with many others on 23’s and 24’s snapping at their heels. This was going to be a good competition!
Remember, that not only individual scores mattered, but cumulative for the North or South teams totals. Team scores would count as a percentage of the available score.
With excellent, consistent targets being thrown, the scores continued to be high, but after the second round, only 1 shooter, Tony Stevens had posted a 50 straight-though a few were within 1 or 2 clays of him, keeping the pressure on.
After round three, Clive Bowen was leading on 74, now with Tony 1 clay behind.
The last round saw Tony shoot a 25 straight, to finish on a 98, with Clive and Lloyd Morris finishing on 97’s and Gareth Irving on a 96.
A great day’s shooting then continued with shoot offs for positions, with pairs on Peg 4, with a good crowd spectating.
A thoroughly enjoyable day, with great hospitality from NWSS and all are looking forward to the return match next year
In the Team competition, the South scored 91% versus the North’s 88%
