The main story this week, has to be the ABT HCIT, held at Esker SG last Friday and Saturday. It was great to catch up with so many friends and that added to the “feel” of the shoot.
Starting on the evening before the event, we held the Captain’s meal at Flynn’s Bar-great food and a great craic! But there was also an important part to the evening and that was awarding the Most Improved ABT Shooter trophy. After discussing a few potential winners, Claire Lewis, received the trophy, for having improved her scores by over 20% in the last year-congratulations Claire!
The conditions were ideal for shooting, with only the changeable light causing some issues. The targets were spot-on and there to be hit (famous last words he says…) Apart from that, the only real variable was the honk of the hooter, used to signal a loss!
At the end of Day 1, Phil Dando was the leading Welsh shooter on a 94, closely followed by Rhys Tucker on a 92, Rob Parry on a 91, Neil Jones on 89 and Liz Walton-James on 88.
Day 2 and more of the same, but with poor light first thing and a bit of wind, which caused a few clays to flutter. Wales had a few individuals and teams in the hunt for the spoils, with Phil Dando shooting another 94 and Rhys Tucker a 93. So at the end of the 2-day HCIT, Wales had won the following-
