Final Shoot Report (Click thumbnails for full image):
Another wonderful sunny day for this - the Inter Counties Sporting Final which was held this year at Griffin Lloyd Shooting Ground. Some people decided to take advantage of the glorious sunshine:
It was nice to see Gwent fielding a team again (as they did for the skeet), which says a lot for the hard work put in by the co-ordinators organising the qualifiers !
The West Glamorgan team can be found in the following picture "in action" on one of the stands:
We also managed to capture the Gwynedd team together on another stand:
Dyfed were trying to get back the trophies that they 'lent' Powys (as it was reported!) after last years final so there was everything to shoot for and here they are getting ready to shoot on one of the stands:
There was a good variety of targets and there with
something for everyone - including: rabbits, teal, loopers, crossers, etc
etc.... JK
had obviously done something to some of those targets that
looked simple enough, as you could hear some people saying
"I've shot around it, over it, under it and I still cant
hit the ****** thing !!!".
This is what a County final is
all about.....giving you something to think about and work that
little bit harder! That's exactly what the likes of Ian
Stubbs (Clwyd) and Pete Humphries (Powys) did - as both repeated
last years performance and were tied for overall High Gun - so it would be
down to a shoot off again. This year though - they were also
shooting off for the Captains trophy.
A picture of Ian Stubbs and Pete Humphries is shown below before the shoot-off was to take place:
In the shoot off - a nasty right to left quartering target on report didn't seem to bother Ian and he straightened it - taking both cups home with him to Clwyd !
The same target was used to decide the Veterans Teams as there was a three way shoot-off between Dyfed, Gwynedd and West Glamorgan. Unfortunately, one half of the Dyfed team decided to take an early bath so it was left to Bob Carter and Robyn Jones of Gwynedd and Geoff Tucker and 'on loan' Llew David for West Glamorgan to decide the title:
West Glamorgan narrowly beat Gwynedd by two clays after a cracking bit of shooting from Llew - giving them the Veterans team title.
With no other shoot-offs, it was down to adding the scores and double checking and many thanks must go to Brian Davies who was there with his trusty calculator (giving Angie Goodman a hand).
It was a lot closer than anyone had realised! Powys (yet again) had held onto their title from Dyfed - but this time it was by only 3 targets! A picture of the winning Powys team is shown below:
Also holding onto his title was Junior Stephen Jones (Clwyd) with a tremendous score 71. The top three juniors were only separated by 2 clays with Luke Llewellin (Dyfed) 70 and Barry Griffiths (Powys) 69 - beating a lot of senior shooters! The Junior team title went to Luke Llewellin & Liam Walters (Dyfed). Well done lads!
The Ladies High Gun trophy went back to Dyfed thanks to Carol Francis (74) and so did the Veterans High Gun trophy with Del Davies (74). The Ladies team title also went back to Dyfed via Angie Goodman & Carol Francis.
Now you can appreciate how well those Juniors did shoot! Hopefully future Welsh Juniors and this is what County shooting is all about as well.....nurturing and developing our future shooters.
