Phil Morgan "Trap Shooting Fault Finding Day" - Mid Wales Shooting
Centre - Sat 26th September 2009
A big thanks go out to Phil Morgan for giving up his time to run this
fault finding session for the benefit of the Mid and North Wales Trap
shooters.
For those who have not been on one of these excellent days - its an ideal chance for well worn shooters (and newcomers) to iron out any problems on a one to one basis with one of the best shots in the country. Phil puts that much time and effort into shooting he is an example to us all and I felt privileged to be able to attend this small group session.
Thanks again Phil on behalf of all of us.

DTL County Qualifiers - Clwyd News
Peter Jones - Clwyd County Coordinator is proud to announce his team for
2009 as follows:
Name Status Class WJ SPENCE CAPTAIN SENIOR PB JONES SENIOR AG JONES SENIOR RC LEWIS SENIOR AL HOWATSON SENIOR W PALMER SENIOR D JONES SENIOR A DAVIES SENIOR DR LEA SENIOR J DOLBEN SENIOR EL DAVIES VETERAN TH DEVANEY VETERAN DE LEA LADY K COWELL LADY
Please note - due to a couple of statistical calculation mistakes, some of the seniors scores at the tail end of the team were incorrect. As a result of this GD Roberts has been replaced by DR Lea and J Dolben remains as before as his score still exceeds that of GD Roberts. Therefore any final Clwyd team lists that may have been posted in Llandegla shooting ground are not up to date and incorrect.
Congratulations to everyone who made the team and thanks to all those who didn't succeed, but still supported the qualifiers.
A special congratulations to Jim Spence who qualified as the highest scoring competitor this year and is 2009 Clwyd Senior Captain.
Here are a few pictures from the last Clwyd Qualifier:
Finally - remember that the final is on Sunday 4th October at Mid Wales Shooting Centre.

Just a reminder from your National County Coordinator Angie Goodman - if anybody
attends either an All Round County Qualifier or the All Round Final - to
note that the DTL part is a single barrel competition only and as such the rules
are that only one cartridge may be loaded in the gun at any time !

ABT Home International - "Picture Storyboard by Paul Todd"
Thanks to Paul Todd from the West Lothian Scotland who took some
excellent shots of the ABT International over the two days. He has
kindly let us publish the Welsh selection on our WCTSA web site - so thanks
so much for that Paul.
Paul has also kindly said that if anybody wants any of the images for printing or personal keeping, then to liaise with me (the webmaster) and he will send through the "print quality" files. If anybody would like to do this, then send an email over to dave@drlea.co.uk and I will in turn contact Paul on your behalf.

ABT Home International - "The Weekend - In Pictures"
Many thanks to Ann Snelgrove for sending in a fantastic selection of photo's of the
Welsh team from the recent ABT home international weekend. A picture
paints a thousand words and I think you will agree this makes a very good
pictorial report.

ABT Home International - "A Great Weekend - A Managers View"
Travelling away with the welsh ABT team always makes for a fun time as it always has a few special characters in it. This year was to be no exception, 18 special people with the added bonuses of Bill Tozer (quiz master extraordinaire) and Ian (jock) Costin - team mascot, chauffer and joker. The team headquarters were to be the Menzies hotel lobby, where each night we would assemble for one of Billto's quizzes and a few shandy's !!!.
As for the shoot, the venue was North Ayrshire shooting ground - Dalry. Owned and run by Tom Young, the shoot ran for 2 days without a single breakdown. So many thanks to Tom, his staff and the SCTSA for putting on a memorable event.
End of day one saw the welsh seniors leading by 1 target over England, 2 over Ireland, 18 in front of Scotland and 37 ahead of Northen Ireland. Not to be outshone by the seniors was new veteran cap Gareth (Gary) Roberts who led his nearest rival by 1 target, for a new cap nerves did not get the better of him.
Day 2 dawned and all started well but things were starting to get tense. Could we keep up the hard work ? As the last few shots were fired and scores were collated, Ireland had overhauled us by 13 targets - finishing on 1860 ex 2000, Wales 1847, England 1832, Scotland 1812 and Northern Ireland on 1776 - nearly but not quite.
Congratulations to Graham Evans on winning Welsh senior High Gun, Tom Costin on Welsh Junior High Gun, Gareth Roberts on Welsh Veteran High Gun and Helen Jones on Welsh Ladies High Gun.
Congratulations to the new caps:
Seniors - Graham Evans, Nigel Clarke
Vets - Gareth Roberts, Roger Griffiths
Lady - Helen Jones
Junior - Jamie Rush
A big thank you goes out to Phil "Magic" Morgan for being captain. Phil's experience and willingness to help shone through on practice day as shooters struggled to come to terms with nerves. As they encountered a different ground and different targets - Phil was on hand to offer advice and knowledge as only he can.
Special thank's goes out to Ann Snelgrove and Gaynor Campbell as both were like personal secretaries all weekend.
A big thank you to team sponsors (Tony Price) of J and G fencing for all of our fleeces and (Graham Evans) for sorting out Macwet gloves for the whole team.
A personal thanks goes out to Ian (Jock) Costin. For many years Ian has been the ABT rep and without him selection shoots would not be organized, scores would not be collated - his energy and affection for the sport is truly admirable.

ABT Home International - "A Great Three Days"
My name is Graham Evans and I would like
to say a great big thank you to all the Welsh ABT team for welcoming me into
the team and making my three days with them so memorable. I have shot
before for Wales at DTL, but never stayed away with the team. These
Welsh boys and girls are a joy to be out and about with and know how to have
a good time, just a word of warning though - if you are thinking of drinking
with Robert Parry then don't, as he has hollow legs, HA HA HA ! only joking
Rob !
Bill Tozer kept us all entertained especially with the quiz that was held in the hotel on the night of the banquet, this was good fun and we were all falling about at some of the answers that were given to him.
Wales can be proud of its ABT team members as they performed to a very high standard and became the runners up by only a very short margin, the manager kept everyone informed of how we were doing throughout the tournament so that we knew just what we had to do to be at or near the top position.
The team was captained by Phil Morgan and his experience as a captain in any discipline shone through as he rallied his team over the two days of competition, if you had a bad round he was one of the first to try and lift your spirits so that you would go into your next twenty five targets with a positive attitude.
Phil's address to the competing countries at the banquet on the Saturday night was I felt straight from the heart, and I feel that he did a sterling job as captain, he did not score to his usual high standard but that did not distract him from the job in hand, he was and is a credit to the country of Wales.
Wales ABT team - Runners up at the Home International 2009, a great result, a win next year ? - maybe ! - watch this space !

ABT Home International - "A Captains Thank You"
I would like to take this opportunity to thank the
A.B.T. Team for a job well done at this years Home International in
Scotland. We as a team excelled on the first day leading by just a
single clay and shooting at some extraordinary targets.
The second day would be an even bigger challenge in the respect of whether we could keep our lead and hold it until the end to become winners. With Ireland shooting extremely well it was going down to the final round to decide who would be runners up. With the scores filtering in slowly and being placed on the score board the atmosphere was tense. Our score had already been calculated by team Manager Jason Shannon which was 1847. Then came news from the England camp that they had scored 1832 and with the Irish manager outside we duly gave him a hand to calculate their score which turned out to be 1860 and put them in pole position with Wales 2nd hooray.
As for individual honours - Graham Evans took Welsh Senior H/G on 191. Welsh Veteran H/G went to new cap Gareth Roberts 179, Welsh Ladies H/G went to another new cap Helen Jones 151 and Welsh Junior H/G Tom Costin 180 - well done to you all.
As Captain I was proud of the whole team - you guys made the trip well worth while thank you all !
Also a big thank to Jason Shannon our team manager who not only did a sterling job, but also got the whole team fleece's which were sponsored by J&G FENCING and another big thank you to Graham Evans and Macwet for sponsoring the team with shooting gloves.
Anyway, once again a big thank you to you all and please give yourselves a big pat on the back for a job well done.
P.S. good luck to those team members who are off to the Isle of Man in a few days time Go Wales !!!!!
BEST WISHES Phil Morgan

National Skeet - Home International Report - Mulroy - August 2009
This years national skeet home international was successfully hosted by
John Diva and his team at Mulroy shooting ground Southern Ireland. The
weather was the best that could be expected, it appeared to rain at least
every ten minutes or so, then brightened up with a glimpse of sunshine and
was over cast in between, then more rain! Apparently this was a
typical Irish summer !!!
The shooting on the day went without a hitch, and as far as I seen
without any trap break downs, all credit to John Diver and his team who
worked extremely hard to lay on this international.
Wales seniors finished third, nine clays away from the winning English team
and only three clays from the runner up team, Scotland. Wales were
helped along the way by the magic that is Nigel Hodson shooting a 99 to take
Welsh high gun. Well shot to Nick Parish and John Thomas both with a
respectable 97 kills. Other shooters of note were our veteran team who
finished second, well shot Del Davies and Rob Hodson.
Welsh team members had a ‘can do attitude’ this year and credit must go to
our captain Huw Evans. I’m sure everyone agrees Huw, as captain, was a
huge success and by fostering a positive attitude has planted the seeds of
success, hopefully for next years international at Telpyn. Joan Hayes
also deserves a mention for the help and support she gave the team as this
years team manager, thank you Joan.
Congratulations to the winning English team, but look out for Telpyn next
year!

Mid Wales Shooting Centre - Saturday September 26th - Trap Shooting

accolades - Wales own Phil Morgan will be doing another fault finding/training day
for DTL Shooters - this time at Mid Wales Shooting Centre on Saturday

Mid Wales and North Wales shooters.
The day is aimed at beginners and experts alike. Phil is pleased to give up his time for anyone who would like to participate - his services are free - you simply pay for the clays that you use - please come along and support this event.
