NEWS / REPORTS OCTOBER 2008

DTL News - Mid Wales Shooting Centre

Here's a small report from Glyn Jenkins that he just sent in by carrier pigeon, hence it being a little late :)

On 12 September at Mid Wales shooting centre a 100 DTL registered event took place. The weather was calm and bright and full of potential for a 300.

The day started exceptionally well for one squad with a "full house for all 5 shooters"

J Birch.
W Palmer.
W Clifton.
G W Evans.
G Jenkins.

Arthur Williams, the owner of the ground, said that this had only been done on 2 previous occasions in the last 15 years !!!!!

D G Ricketts won the event with a 299 along with Bob Taylor also on a 299. Well done gentlemen.

Congratulations must go to Arthur, Rita and all the staff, the targets and ground was immaculate.

Skeet Shooters - we want to hear from you !

World Skeet Championships 2009

As you may now be well aware, the 2009 World Skeet Championships are to be held in Doveridge, England mid to end of July, the correct date yet to be confirmed, as is the full format.   However, it seems apparent that Countries will be invited to send Teams consisiting of 5 Seniors, and 3 each in the Junior, Lady and Veteran category.

In order for these teams to be selected, the Executive of the WCTSA have requested formalisation of a selection procedure specifically for this event.  This has to be completed and produced at the next meeting to be held on 29th October 2008.

The current proposal is to fall in line with other teams who have previously attended these championships, ie, select teams on the basis of taking the Best 3 scores from the first 4 or possibly 5 shoots next year, why I say possibly 5 is that apparently the Teams have to be entered by Mid May 2009, a tight squeeze to fit in 5 selection shoots.

It is also suggested that these first shoots are allocated to grounds where it is possible to shoot black clays, in order that the shooters can sample the delights of black clay before heading off to Doveridge, where black clays will be used.

As stated earlier these are only suggestions, and your comments would be welcomed regarding this matter.

One such suggestion already received is that a Minimum Consideration Score of 97 be introduced.

Please email your comments/suggestions to claybusterk80@yahoo.co.uk.

Thank you

Richard Stepney - WCTSA National Skeet Executive.

News from the CSF ED Championships in Gibraltar

Scott Morgan won individual Gold in Double Trap at the recent CSF Ed Championships in Gibraltar, setting a range and indeed country record in the process. He finished in 4th place in the pairs competition partnered by John Hall. Scottie then shot the OT where he secured Bronze medal after a shoot off for Silver.

In the Olympic Skeet Tournament, Richard Stepney and Terry Griffiths secured a Bronze medal in the Pairs competition whilst Richard finished 5th in the individual closely followed by son Jonathan in 6th.

Both events were marred by horrendous weather conditions, with no electricity being available for the whole of Gibraltar during Saturday.

Nevern Valley Clay Target Club - Open Shoot Report 27th September 2008

The NVCTC annual 'Open Shoot' (Sporting) was held at our Shooting Ground, Crugiau Farm, Nevern, North Pembrokeshire, on Saturday 27th September.

We were extremely fortunate that the shooting conditions proved to be near perfect with sunshine, scattered cloud and a light breeze.

The event was a 30 Bird 'sporting' discipline and a Pool Shoot.

Judging from the comments made by many of the entrants, it confirmed that the targets were challenging and we succeeded in striking a good balance of variety with a degree of difficulty.

It was pleasing to observe the number of shooters who decided to go around more than once.

The winners, with some excellent shooting, were as follows:

Open Class
1st Jeff Birch 27/30
2nd A. Davies 26/30
3rd A. Walters 25/30

Novice Class
1st Dai Wright 19/30
with runners up Richard Wakeman, Ian Brandon and Paul Morgan.

Junior prize
This was taken by Jack Griffiths.

NVCTC would like to extend a big thank you to all entrants for turning up and giving their support and our sponsors of the event, A.J. Recycling Ltd, Wendy Brandon Preserves and Eye Protection Systems Ltd (Chris Hassett). And, last but not least, the WCTSA for advertising the event for us on the Website.
