Over to you Andrew:

Question 1. What disciplines do you shoot?

Andrew>>  I currently shoot DTL and ABT.

Question 2. What type of gun are you using?

Andrew>>  I currently use my Miroku Trap Gun which is fixed choke and 100% reliable.  I started with my dad's Winchester and then a Rizzini.  Eventually I managed to get my dad's 682 Trap Gun off him, but went back to my Miroku as it feels so right for me.

Question 3. Is there a specific ammunition you favour or tend to use?

Andrew>>  I use Eley Superbs in 7 ½ as the recoil is minimal and they are consistent and reliable.

Question 4.  What's your background in shooting, when did you start, where did you start?

Andrew>>  My Dad introduced me to Phil Ash back in February this year who gave me some excellent advice and confidence with a 12 gauge, we then went to Mike's (South Wales 2000) to put the advice into practice and I was hooked.  Before this I had done a bit of Pest Control/Target shooting with Air Rifles but nothing competitive.

Question 5.  List of your achievements to date?

Andrew>>  I have shot a 25/25 at DTL at South Wales 2000 (Perfect Targets) also shot 93/100 at Lydney and I shot an 88/100 in the ABT Inter Counties Finals winning WCTSA Colt ABT High Gun and Gwent Junior ABT High Gun also 2009 Gwent Junior DTL High Gun.

Question 6.  Most memorable shoot/performance?

Andrew>>  It has to be my ABT 88/100 at my home ground in the Inter Counties Finals when I won 2 trophies in my first competition, I will never forget that day.

Question 7.  Who are your close shooting friends?

Andrew>>  My Dad (Cashpoint !!) and the one and only Mr Phil Morgan when he is at the club.  I prefer to shoot on a full line when practising against all standards of shooter and I love the pressure, all the guys at the club are great and all treat me with respect not like some kid !! Saturdays cant come quick enough.

Question 8.  Influences, coaches or people who've helped your shooting?

Andrew>>  Phil Ash, Mike Amodeo and of course Phil Morgan who has been my Inspiration and whose advice has been invaluable.  I am lucky that I have the best facilities available at my club and the best advice always to hand.  To rub shoulders with some of the best there is enough for anyone, but at 13 years old and to be included in these guys (and ladies) conversations and competitions is fantastic.  Just getting a text from Phil Morgan seems to make me focus better !!  And Mike always takes an interest in my progress and is always there for me, and of course my Dad who without his backing and time I would never have been able to take up this fantastic sport.

Question 9.  Top tip for your chosen discipline?

Andrew>>  See It, Shoot It, Hit it. And as Phil says “Look at the Clay”

Question 10.   What are your hopes for the future ?

Andrew>>  I hope that more youngsters like myself get involved and secure the future of a sport that gets little press coverage.

Question 11.  What are "your personal ambitions and goals" within shooting for the foreseeable future ?

Andrew>>  To remain in the County Squad and eventually shoot for my Country would be a dream come true.

Thanks for your excellent submission this month Andrew, it was a very enjoyable read and we hope it inspires other young people who read it.

All the best for the future from all of us here at the WCTSA, we hope your ambitions and dreams are realised very soon.

First DTL Winter Series - SW2000 - 15th November 2009

A great turn out for this with 6 squads attending.  Seeing as it was windy the targets on reflection weren't being affected that much - if anything it was the rapid changing of the light which would catch the competitor out.  Down to the shooting and this is how it looked at the end:

AA
P.R.MORGAN 100 X 297
A.J.POOLE 96 X 286
D.G.ORAM 96 X 278

A
J.CAMPBELL 98 X 288
G.SEABOURNE 99 X 287

B
A.JONES 98 X 285 JUNIOR
R.J.CHIVERS 91 X 265
D.J.LEWIS 90 X 262

C
G.F.SEABOURNE 93 X 265 JUNIOR
H.D.WILLIAMS 90 X 263

Thanks to Mike & Margaret for hosting the shoot and thanks to everyone for turning out.

1st National Skeet Winter Series Shoot - SW2000 - 8th November 2009

On what turned out to be a lovely Autumn day with a good bit of sunshine, a disappointing 8 entries turned out for the first of the Winter Series put on by Mike Amodeo, with some choosing to shoot further a field.  However, the lack of entries did not deter one bit from the fierce competition that was about to ensue.

Round 1 saw 2 from the first squad score a perfect 25, Mark Davies and Rob English, with Kev Phillips, Lloyd Morris and Alan Parkin just 1 behind on 24 apiece. Squad 2 also saw Geoff Seabourne straight.  However round 2 proved disastrous for him dropping an uncharacteristic 6 targets.

Positions after the first 50 showed Morris and English tied on 49.  Kev Phillips, Alan Parkin and Mark Davies hanging on to their shirt tails, all on 48. The killer for English was the 3rd round, lack of sleep probably causing the 3 targets loss. With Davies putting in another straight, the lead was now shared between him and Morris, with Parkin also pulling away from the rest.

At the end of the competition it was Morris who emerged victorious with a score of 96x100 followed closely by Davies on 95 and Phillips on 94.

The first Zero points of the Winter Series therefore went to Lloyd Morris, along with the Class prize in A class.

The next round is on December 6th, hopefully we will have a better turn out at that one. Many thanks to Mike and Margaret Amodeo for their continued support.

Keep it up everybody, if you have any winter series shoot information or articles that would be of interest to our members feel feel to send them through to the usual address through the coming winter periods.
