Maltese Olympic Trap and Skeet GP News

14 Shooters make their way to Malta next week to shoot the Maltese GP in both the Olympic disciplines.

For the first time in the Welsh Clay Shooting history, 2 development teams are being funded to attend this event alongside the 2 Senior Teams.  The development squads will also contain Junior Shooters.

The teams are as follows:

Trap Seniors

Neal Jones
Ian Belcher
John Hall

Trap Development

Alan Williams
Scott Morgan
Tom Costin

Skeet Seniors

Richard Stepney
Del Davies
P Jenkins

Skeet Development

Gareth James
Steve Taylor
Cerys Evans

The teams will also be accompanied by Mike Amodeo and Cheryl Gizzi - as well as an Overall Team Manager for the Commonwealth Games Team (John Dallimore).

These Teams are being funded solely by the Welsh Target Shooting Federation (WTSF i.e. not the WCTSA), and is certainly something the younger shooters in the National disciplines should be aiming for.  With London 2012 on our doorstep, more and more funding will hopefully become available for events like this, and with Cyprus, Britannia GP, 5 Nations Championship in France and Malta already pencilled in for next year, it promises to be a bumper year for Welsh Shooting.

Further information on this and any other event can be had from John Hall or Richard Stepney, contact details available on this site here.

The WCTSA wish all competitors every success at the event.

SW2000 Shoot Report

A good turn out for this the first of a series of 5 shoots being held.  8 squads in all with the inclusion of the Gloucester County Championship.

High Gun went to local shooter Phil Morgan with 100 x 297 followed closely by S. Darch with a 100 x 295.

"A class" was won by a local Gwent shooter Dai Medlicott who was 75 straight, but missed a full bird in his last round ending with 99 x 294. Second went to Nigel Clarke on 99 x 290.

"B class" was won by a young Englishman S.Wheadon with 99 x 289 and second going to J.Maizonnier 97 x 283.

On to "C class" and it was Phil's wife Gail taking the spoils with 93 x 273 and second M.Evans 92 x 268.

In the current economic crisis I would like to thank Mike for the price of the 100 competition set at 25 pounds and 20 for B/O.  These prices will remain for the rest of the D.T.L. series.

High Gun will consist of a pound from every shooter being pooled over the 5 shoots and 250 cartridges for first in AA,A,B,C - overall series ranking will be via the best 3 scores from 5.  There is an added bonus of 100 pound for the first 100 x 300 being shot.  Class prizes will be given at every shoot as well.

This competition attracted shooters from various part of the UK and abroad, and its success has prompted further calls from Associations in South Africa and Australia to name but two, in readiness for next years competition.  The report is as follows:

The shoot was held over the 15/17 October at Northall shooting ground Sussex, Twenty shooters took part coming from England, Finland, Ireland, Scotland and Wales, the competition consisted of sporting and ABT, the ground also put on some double trap and OSK.

Welsh Shooter Mathew Goodwin took the following places:

The World head of Classification Mrs Sally Hall attended the shoot and classified those eligible under existing rules and will be giving a report / presentation to the ISCD (World Governing Body for disabled shooting) in December and it is hoped that from this the sport of clay shooting will spread worldwide. Interest has been expressed for another competition with New Zealand and Australia also expressing an interest in competing.
