Llandegla Shooting Ground - 100 DTL (Welsh Qualifier) - May 13th 2007

Thanks must go to John Roberts and the jury for the way in which they conducted themselves in setting the targets for this event.  Not only were the targets correct to angle - they were correct in every aspect of a thrown D.T.L. target and things ran like clockwork all day.

Weather conditions did play a small part in the odd barrel and missed target, but generally you had to work for your score.

Those competitors that shot a 100 straight or even a 99 x 297 - like Tom Devaney - should give themselves a pat on the back as this is the type of target that we will come up against at Bywell.

Veteran shooter Emrys Roberts again blasted another 100 but this time two points better than when he was down at South Wales - ending with a 298. Gary Beagen posted the same score as when he shot the county final a 297 (Llandegla must be a lucky ground for him).

Great to see some new faces coming into the sport such as Lee Turpin - who shot a 100 x 296 and must be one of the contenders for a top five finish.

Congratulations to Lee Jones who won the day with a full house 100 x 300 fantastic as this is the third 300 shot at the selection shoots this year LOOK OUT ENGLAND !!!!!

Well, done to all who took part - we can't wait for the 20th of May !

Welsh Involvement in the Great Britain UT Selection Shoots

It started this year at East Yorkshire Gun Club on the 24th and 25th March.  Only three Welsh shooters took part out of a field of 101 guns ! The participants being - Cheryl Gizzi, Chris Belcher and Roy Long.  Conditions over the two days were quite good but very cold.

The second in the series was held at Rugby and District Target Club on the 28th and 29th April and the same three Welsh guns attended in a field of 102 guns. Conditions on the first day were Bright and windy, and the second day overcast and windy.

High gun at this event was K. Gill on 195. As for the Welsh well improvements all round after the first shoot at Yorkshire with Cheryl posting a 173, Chris a 181 (which secured him 4th in C class) and Roy a 186 which gave him 1st in C class and joint 14th overall.

SW2000 Shooting Ground - 100 DTL - 2nd Welsh Qualifier - April 8th 2007.

17 squads made the journey to South Wales 2000 for this - the second Welsh DTL team qualifier event, but as an added bonus to the shooters - this event was also to be the annual South Wales DTL Championships.

Mr Amodeo and his staff had obviously been working very hard on the ground as the layouts and facilities were immaculate.

The weather could hardly have been better with a slight cool breeze.....but bright sunshine !  The targets and angles were also spot on !
Having said all this.....what a shock scoring day.....only 6 scores in the 290 !!!  Why was this ? - was there added pressure because of the South Wales Championship ??

G jenkins held an early lead with a 293, closely followed by R Millichamp with a 292.

With the afternoon starters - some good scores were posted with E Roberts on a 149,T Howells on a 146 and G Howells on a 147, all with 50 left to shoot !

Unfortunately, T Howells and G Howells fell away on the last 50.  E Roberts put in a great final score of 100 ex 296 and was to win the overall high gun for the shoot and the South Wales Championships - excellent shooting and the title was well deserved.

Here were the main standings at the end of the day:
