Mid Wales Shooting Centre - Krieghoff 500 DTL Event - 25th to 28th May 2006

The annual Krieghoff 500 over the bank holiday weekend proved to be a great boost to Welsh shooting.  Not only the excellent targets, but the smooth running of the event and the fantastic standard of service from all the staff at Mid Wales.

The Welsh shooters themselves also excelled:

Elwyn Biddulph with his 100 / 300 who went into the shoot off on the final day, unfortunately not picking up the main prize - which went to Englishman Paul Chaplow.

Ifor Williams , Lee Jones and Elwyn Biddulph were in a shoot off for third place in AA, with superb scores of 200 / 597 ex 600 - Ifor eventually taking third place.  Glyn Jenkins in seventh place with 200 / 596 ex 600.

Well known North Wales shooter Eric Davies was in a shoot off for overall second place in the Veterans class.  Eric is used to shoot off's in the Krieghoff as he shot off in the grand final of the very first Krieghoff classic event with Mick Milne some years ago.  Eric's opponent for Veteran's runner up spot was former World DTL champion - English shooter John Winn - both on 592 ex 600.  Eric won the shoot off to take the honours as Veterans runner up.

With such good Welsh performances, let's hope this is a confidence booster for the forthcoming Internationals !

Thanks go to Arthur and Rita, Jonathan in the shop and Rachel and all the staff in the kitchen and the markers and referee's (they all need a medal).

Finally - thanks go to the "Alan Rhone/Krieghoff Team" for regularly putting together such a well attended "world class" annual event here in Wales.  Follow this link to see the full results from the Krieghoff UK Website for the 200 bird classic event.

SW2000 - 100 Reg Skeet - Sunday 28th May 2006

With a cash prize on offer for Hi-Gun you would have thought that this shoot would have been well supported, but unfortunately the entry was well below normal.

Some of the "big guns" (if you can call them that) were away in Ireland at the Irish and Ulster opens, but this does not detract from the polished performance put in by C Class and junior shooter Shane Wilson who came out on top with an excellent 95, giving him his first ever win.

Second place went to Gareth James with an excellent 91, in only his first year of competitive shooting.

Thanks to SW2000 for another good shoot, and lets hope the next one will be better attended.

Mulroy CPC - Irish Open - Sunday 28th May 2006

Sunday dawned a bit brighter than the Saturday, but just as windy.  Everyone had made the journey across the border on Saturday to make the most of the hospitality and entertainment at the Milford Inn at Mulroy - a stones throw from the ground.

Rob English again started well being 1 down at the 75 mark with Richard Stepney 2 down.  It all came apart for both shooters on the last 25, with Rob dropping 4 targets and Richard 3, both ending on 95 ex 100.

This was enough to give Rob the B Class Badge for the Irish Open to cap a successful weekend for him.

Again no 100's were posted and the championship went to Shiels Hessin from Ulster for the second year running. Well done Shiels !!!

John Diver and his wife worked hard to keep the traps filled and to keep us all fed and watered during the day ( free teas, coffees and buns!!!!), so gracious thanks once again for your welcome.

Route Gun Club - Ulster Open Skeet Championship - Sat 27th May 2006

Easy Jet regulars, John Thomas, Rob English and Richard Stepney made the short journey over to Coleraine for the first of two Open Championships on the Emerald Isle over the weekend of 27th/28th May.

The early pace in very windy conditions was set by Rob English, his first 50 showing a clean card, this was blemished by a hi one that got away on his third round. He completed the 100 with another clean sheet to post the first 99 ex 100 that would appear during the day.

John Thomas and Richard Stepney ended the day on 95 ex 100 a piece.

With no 100's on the board it was down to a 3 way shoot off with Rob eventually finishing in third place, but taking the badge for B Class.

Hi Gun and Ulster Open Champion was Englishman Paul Hallam, even though his Grandparents were Welsh!!!

Many thanks to the hard working team at the Route (you know who you are) for another wonderful welcome.

I was recently contacted by John Chantler asking me to link to his web-site for the Teifi Valley Clay Target League and I was intrigued to learn more.

South Wales 2000 - 100 DTL - 4th Welsh Qualifier - May 21st 2006

80 Competitors turned up to brave the weather conditions at altitude.

Leading the way after the first 8 squads was English man Alan Paige with a great score of 99 X 296.  Also - a blast from the past by the way of Adrian Webb turning up and who was the highest scoring Welshman after the first wave with a 288.

With the conditions trying to get better it saw R.Millichamp go 75 X 224 going into his last round and a firm favourite to finish in the 290's, but he dropped a hat full of points and ended in the low 280's.

It was left to the inform Phil Morgan going into his last round for a 297 to keep honours within Wales, but barrelling a target reduced him to a 100 x 296 matching Paige's score.  Because the Englishman left, he was forced to concede high gun to Morgan and took first in A class.  Alan Poole had 2nd in A IN A.  Glyn Jenkins had 1st in AA. Other winners from memory were Nigel Clarke second in C.  Ian Mackie 1st in B, G.W.Evans also had a draw in AA.

The full results available in Microsoft Excel format are here.

Well, done to all shooters and the best of luck in the forth coming Krieghoff.

Llandegla Shooting Ground - 100 National Skeet - Welsh Qualifier - May 14th 2006

Anyone who practiced in Llandegla on the previous day could have thought Oh No! - with visibility being very poor due to a blanket of fog. Sunday however dawned with much brighter conditions and the stage was set for yet another thrilling day of skeet shooting.

Topping the leader board at half way was Nigel Hodson, having his fair share of "chips" in two perfect rounds, with visiting junior R Ellis close behind on 49.

Please spare a thought at this time for the ever safety conscious Rob English, who lost his first bird out, because you guessed it, he left the safety on!!.  He ended the first 50 on 47 along with Richard Stepney.

The second 50 was not so kind to Nigel, dropping 2 - but still finishing as Hi gun on 98 whilst English put in a very polished 50 straight to end a frustrating but safe day on 97.   Also on 97 was R Ellis who took the junior prize money.

Tom Hayes was hoping to get a score on the board at his "home" ground but ended up yet again on 94.

Rhys Evans and Jordan Clifford tied for highest Welsh junior on 95 a piece with Nick Parish in third with a 91.

Ladies honours again went to Carol Francis with a very creditable 93 ex 100.

The carnival now moves on to Telpyn on June 4th.

Many thanks to John Roberts and his hard working team for putting on an excellent shoot.

Mid Wales Shooting Centre - 100 DTL - May 14th 2006

Some 19 squads turned out at Mid Wales (less a few people on a couple of squads).

There were a number of 100 straights posted today, notable Terry Swinburn shooting a 100 x292 in the first wave of competitors.  North Wales very own Eric Davies is on form at the moment after his recent performance in the 3rd Welsh Qualifier and posted a 100 x 298 to lead the way in the afternoon batch of shooters.  Eric had to wait patiently as Ifor Williams Emyrs Roberts and Phil Morgan were on for a 299 with only a single round to shoot !

Ifor barrelled a target on the last round was forced to concede on a 298 and it was Roberts and Morgan left to share the spoils on a 299 a piece - what a tense finish and what fine shooting - congratulations to both of them.

Cap Williams also shot an excellent 100 x 297 on the day which brought a smile to his face !

Best of luck to all the Welsh international hopefuls for the fourth DTL shoot next week at South Wales 2000.

Llandegla Shooting Ground - 100 DTL - 3rd Welsh Qualifier - May 7th 2006

An excellent turn out for this the third selection shoot.

33 squads were posted and out of the first 18 squads it was K.Bond who was leading the pack with a score of 100 x 298.  Welsh men Glyn Jenkins and Eric Davies 100 x 297 and 99 x 297 respectively set the pace with that score to chase.

Lee Jones was not having any of it and after barrelling his second target out of the day shot a 100 x 299 to take high gun.  Phil Morgan could only muster up a 100 x 298 and with Emyrs Roberts and Ifor Williams both on 50 straight did look like up setting the apple cart but both missed targets at the 75 stage but still finished with again a 297 a piece.

Alex Biddaulph was highest Junior scoring a 98 x 285 and a special mention to Mrs Gail Morgan for shooting her very first 25 x 75.

Well done to all the winners (if not mentioned above) and thanks to the Llandegla ground staff for putting on a great shoot.
