Mid Wales Shooting Centre -100 DTL (Final Winter Series) - 25th March 2007
An excellent turn out at Mid Wales this fine Sunday, especially as the first Welsh selection shoot is just a few weeks away.
As with the climax of any winter series - there was quite a buzz about the place as people dashed in and out of the club house to see how they were performing not only in this shoot - but in the overall winter series here at Mid Wales. With a fine day like this it was full steam a head for the competitors. P.J. Rodgers was leading AA a few points ahead of Welshman Glyn Jenkins and five above Phil Morgan, so it was all to play for at the top of the series board.
Rodgers under performed on the day and Jenkins posted a respectable 296. But it was that man Phil "Magic Morgan" who upset the apple cart again by shooting a 295 and passing the other two to take the spoils of High Gun in AA for the overall winter series and Jenkins going from third to runner up spot. Congratulations gentlemen - excellent performances.
Other Welsh winners were Brendan Jones who "won the day" with an excellent 100 x 298 - piping Dave Baugh by a point who shot 100 x 297.
Kara Jones won the ladies section.
Lloyd Davies won the juniors.
Bob Chivers had a draw in B class and Roger Jones took second in C class with an excellent 285.
Lee Jones who was 75 straight and going for a hard earned 300 barrelled a target and some noisy spectators behind cost him a full target in his last three targets of the day which left him on 296.
Congratulations to all the competitors, very well done.
Thanks to the Williams family and staff at Mid Wales for an excellent winter series, we look forward to next year's.

SW2000 - O.T. Welsh Selection Shoot - 25th March 2007
It was the first Welsh O.T. selection shoot at 2000 and 6 squads turned out.
With dark and windy conditions it was Mike Wixey who took top honours with a score of 89 closely followed by our Welsh junior shooter Scott Morgan on 88 (no relation to Phil Morgan I might add).
Well, done to all the winners as we will have missed out some names and best of luck for the fourth coming season which is upon us.

Llandegla Shooting Ground -100 DTL (Final Winter Series) - 18th March 2007
After such a reasonable day on the Saturday - Sunday arrived and
the weather was horrendous. In Glyn Jenkins words:
"What a day !!!! Freezing
high winds, blizzards and the worst conditions I have ever shot
in."
Even though it was Mothers Day and the weather was bad, 16 squads still shot throughout the day.
High gun for the day was taken by local shooter Karl Jones with a fantastic 99/291 during the harsh shooting conditions. To put Karl's score into perspective, only one other score was posted out of 16 squads above 280 - so this really did show his immense ability to shine in these awful conditions - well done Karl. Incidentally, the only other score above 280 was by young Alex Biddulph - what a talent in the making.
So as for the overall winter series champion - who would take it
after only 8 points separating the top 3. Well the positions
weren't to change - Eric Davies was overall winter series champion,
with Glyn Jenkins in runners up spot and Tom Devaney third - well done
gentlemen - excellent shooting.
First in A class was G Shaw, with D.I. Humphreys taking B Class and
John Dolben taking C class.
Karl Jones may have taken high gun for the day, but it was dad Peter
Jones who took the overall veterans title for the winter series - but
we all know Peter taught Karl everything he knows :)
Thanks go out to John Roberts and his staff at Llandegla and also to Gwyn for his great efforts in putting all the scores and photos onto the internet which can be found below:

Mid Wales Shooting Ground -Welsh Open Single Barrel and Double Rise Championships - 11th March 2007
18 squads entered for the single barrel championship held at Mid Wales.
It was a regular shooter at Mid Wales "Paul Hodges" that set the grade in the early squads with a very good 98 x 100.
With the squalling wind that swept across the ground, shooting was made difficult and with the added pressure of the 98 on the board already - competitors had to dig in.
With a big English presence, you new someone would either match the score or go one better. John Bellamy posted a 98 late on, but unbeknown to most - a young Welsh junior shooter by the way Alex Biddaulph was 75 straight and going for the magic 100. Dropping 2 targets in his last round, Alex would leave a three way shoot off for high gun.
Into the shoot off and with Bellamy and Biddaulph missed a target a piece and handed victory to Hodges who shot his round clear. So he took high gun with Bellamy taking 1st AA. Joint 2nd in AA were Chaplow, Morgan, Mullarkey and Evans on 97.
1st A A.Biddaulph 98
1st B D.Oram 95
Ladies High Gun went to Lynne Mary Turpin
who shot 92 x 100 to regain the ladies title.
On to the Double Rise and again it was Hodges who led the way with a
score of 44 x 50.
With only 10 squads entering, it looked quite promising with the likes of John Stafford only managing a 41 with his new DT 10.
Then all eyes focused on the super squad, but with Mullarkey dropping birds early on he was soon out the running.
Chaplow posted a splendid score of 48 and looked certain to win it. But up stepped Magic Morgan to rain on his parade. Going out on the last but one squad and missing a target in his third pair - he out shot the rest clear to post a 49 and take victory and the title.
Well done to everybody who took part and a big thanks to the Williams family and staff for another brilliant shoot.

Llandegla Shooting Ground -100 DTL (5th Winter Series) - 4th March 2007
Eric Davies came into this shoot full of confidence on the back of a well shot 297 the weekend before at Mid Wales.
Glyn Jenkins and Eric Davies posted the initial high scores at the 50 stage - with 1 point separating them on 50/147 and 50/146 respectively, but with the imposing presence of John Stafford hot on their heels.
Glyn Jenkins dropped another 2 points on his third round and was lying equal with Eric Davis on 220 points at the 75 stage - making for a tense climax to the final round. John Stafford fell away with 2 lost birds on his 3rd line, so unless a disaster occurred for Eric or Glyn - John was out of the running.
Glyn shot his last line before Eric and put the pressure on by scoring a round of 25/75 (only the third straight of the day). Once Glyn had posted his score - Eric knew he needed a straight to equal Glyn's excellent scoring, but unfortunately for Eric he dropped a second barrel to hand the high gun to Glyn with 100/295.
Only 3 290+ scores all day, the weather for once got its own back !!!
The final winter series event takes place on the 18th March. Eric Davies is leading the overall shoot on 1178. Glyn Jenkins is in second place overall (with a 5 point margin behind Eric) on 1173 and Tom Devaney is in third place overall with 1170. With scores these close it will make an exciting climax to another Winter Series at Llandegla.

Southern Counties -100 DTL (Final Winter Series) - 4th March 2007
What a day !!!!!!
5 Welsh shooters made the trip for this the final of the DTL series.
Phil Morgan who has won this competition for the passed 4 yrs was going in to this final 3 points behind Tony Dore. With Morgan needing to shoot a score of 293 to draw level or better to win put unnecessary pressure on himself by dropping two full targets and a barrel on the first round.
B class shooter Bob Chivers only had to put in a good performance to consolidate his victory or a poor result from the chasing pack would give him the spoils. Morgan shooting the next 50 targets with a barrel that would cost him a possible draw handed High Gun of the series to Dore thus ending Magic Morgans 4 yr reign at this competition. Incidentally the weather conditions on the day weren't the best for clay shooting more for kite flying :)
Results of the day
1st AA Phil Morgan 97 x 289
2nd B M.Chivers 86 x 247
3rd B R.J. Chivers 86 x 246
4th C G.Morgan lady 86 x 246
6th C R.C.Jones 82 x 230.
Overall Winter Series Winners
High Gun Tony Dore 879 x 900
AA Phil Morgan 876 x 900
A G. MCgaan ----------------
B Bob Chivers 843 x 900
Well, done to everyone and special thanks to Kevin Newton and Southern Counties for another excellent Winter Series.

Dale Oram who has come back to shooting after ditching motocross finished with a very respectably 89.
