Llandegla Shooting Ground - DTL Final Winter Series - March 19th 2006

Nice conditions, with hardly any wind, set-up what looked to be a perfect day for a spot of clay shooting.

It was obvious Paul Chaplow was going to take the Overall High Gun prize of the winter series with some great scores - 299, 300, 297, 297, a total of 1193x1200!

With Paul Chaplow taking the High Gun prize, T.H.Devaney took AA class with a score of 1179x1200 and J.C.Yarwood took second place with 1177x1200.

J.Mirza took overall high gun of the day with a 99-294 and also won A class for the winter series with 1169x1200, with A.Sikorski coming in a close second with 1167x1200.

The veterans class was won by E.L.Davies with a score of 1160x1200.

Southern Counties - ABT Final Winter Series - March 19th 2006

Only 3 squads turned out on a blustery day down at Dorchester, but it was good to hear news of some top Welsh shooting.

One of our welsh shooters "Roger Jones" was looking good to take High Gun honours in C class after tackling snow and often gale force winds at the other winter series events.

Not all was plain sailing regarding the conditions and posting a personal best of  89 x 100 - Roger was joint High Gun on the day with alongside the likes of Steve Ling who at present is one of many who represent Great Britain at U.T. and K.Shynn. Shooting such a score put Jones out in front to take overall High Gun for the winter series in his 2005 class which was "C" and taking 1st place on the day in his new 2006 class "B". Chris Belcher who also attended this winter series took 1st in "C" with a score of  85 x 100.

Well done to you both.

Mid Wales Shooting Centre - Welsh Single Barrel Competition - March 12th 2006

The Welsh Single Barrel competition is the first major competition on the DTL shooters calendar and is a very well attended and prestigious event.

Who could believe the weather that occurred on Saturday evening (11th March) as most of the country was covered in heavy drifts of snow by the Sunday morning, which must have put off some of our competitors from further a field from venturing out.  But even in conditions like these - a very respectable 15 squads were out in force to battle it out for the title of Welsh Single Barrel champion.

With his recent performance in the Southern Counties winter series, all eyes were on Welshman Phil Morgan to pull something special out of the bag - but it was not to be, Phil was the highest shooting Welsh competitor on a 96 - but was 2 full targets a drift from the shoot-off for overall Welsh champion.
In the shoot-off for the overall title were R.F. Taylor and P.Chaplow - both on a 98, with R.F. Taylor taking the overall Welsh Single Barrel title for 2006 - congratulations, excellent shooting and what a start to the season !

Nice to see our very own Welshman Martin Myers who is current 2005 Mitsubishi World Series Sporting champion, shooting a completely different discipline and still picking up 4th place in AA - very impressive.

For the ladies, it was one, two, three for the Welsh - with Lyne Turpin taking the title of 2006 Welsh Ladies Single Barrel champion on a 92.  Lyne is off to the World championships to represent Wales very shortly - good luck and we hope your success continues individually and with the Welsh team.  Runner up was Sharron Ebrell with 88 - after shooting off with Cas Trehearne (88).  Both Welsh ladies in the shoot off for second  place shot an impressive 25 straight in the first round of the shoot off, with Sharron taking the second place slot after winning the shoot off on a subsequent round.

Overall places were as follows:

Brondai Shooting Ground - 3rd Dyfed Sporting County Qualifier - 11th March 2006

Brondai Shooting Ground held the final Dyfed sporting qualifier on the 11th March and thanks go to Netty and Chris for putting the shoot on.

The weather was a shooters dream, no wind, hardly any sun, and it wasn't cold.

The targets were a good selection of rabbits, incomers, crossers and others - basically - a bit of something for everyone!  (A bit of welcome relief after the challenging shoot at Cardigan)

By the end of the day we had 3 shooters on 42ex50 - Paul Jones, Phil Davies and ground owner Chris Dare, whilst nipping at their heels was the top lady of the day Angie Goodman on a 41 (Angie joked that she was requested to do a drugs test after that performance, but we all know she is just being too modest).  Joining Angie will be Carol Francis in the Ladies team.

The Veterans final result was a close contest between LLew David and Stuart Hall making the team.

Juniors Bleddyn Lewis and Nick Parish formed the Junior team although due to University commitments, Nick had to stand down and his place went to new cap Edward Poore.  Well done Edward.   A special well done to the new juniors who came along this year and gave it a go, Luke and Richard.  Keep it up lads!

Dyfed now look forward to meeting the other Counties at the Final on the 30th April at Dovey Valley Shooting Ground.

South Wales 2000 - DTL Angle Information

The owner of South Wales 2000 - Mike Amodeo has been issued with a letter from the English CPSA regarding the consistency of targets thrown for the DTL discipline (as have the majority of other grounds in the UK).  Mike has asked us to publish the relevant section of this letter for reference purposes:

The English CPSA remind grounds providing registered DTL targets that they should follow guidelines 3.44 and 3.45 from their technical rules booklet 7.

3.44  Targets shall be thrown randomly, within an area bounded by an angle pf 22 degrees each side of an imaginary straight line, drawn through the centre of firing mark No.3, and projected past the centre of the pivot point of the trap set to throw a straight away target.

3.45  The trap shall be set at this angle (22 degrees) to the left and to the right of this straight line for
all registered events.

Note: These angles can be visibly checked, by noting that with the trap set to throw an extreme left hand target, this would appear as a straight away target when viewed from firing mark No.5 For an extreme right hand target as a straightaway target when viewed from firing mark No.1.

Llandegla Shooting Ground - DTL 5th Winter Series - March 5th 2006

The 5th DTL Winter series shoot at Llandegla started with gritting the drive up to the shooting ground because of the snow and ice.

The welcome was far from frosty with the usual warm welcome from John and staff.  A lot of pre-shoot banter was taking place as a certain G Jenkins managed to get his 4x4 stuck at the bottom of the hill.

Onto the competition - a good turn out as usual, with good scores predicted as fine sunny weather started the day - only to be dashed by high winds and snow storms which kept scores low.  Target visibility seemed to be the overall problem as the change in light conditions were quite dramatic.

Overall high gun was the mighty Will Palmer with 289 ex 300.
AA class winner J R Singleton 288 ex 300, with Glyn Jenkins following closely on 287 ex 300.

A class winner J Mirza
B class winner R C Thomas
C class winner R Jones

A good day was had by all - even in trying conditions.

All the scores from each shoot are published on the Llandegla web site which is run by Gwyn and what an excellent service he provides.  The scores from all DTL shoots and winter series are on the Llandegla site right now, so go and have a browse - http://www.llandeglasg.co.uk

Southern Counties - DTL Final Winter Series - March 5th 2006

A dozen or so Welsh shooters descended upon Southern Counties for this the final of the DTL winter series.

The weather was somewhat unpredictable and making the odd target fly high and also flat. However, this did not stop our every own Nigel Clarke (pictured right) - a C class shooter taking top honours on the day by out shooting the likes of Phil Morgan and English man Gerald Sweet to name but a few.  Finishing the day on a score of 97 x 287 he was High Gun for the day and he also won his Class prize - but most importantly he was the overall winner of C class in the Winter Series.  Lynn Turpin one for our lady shooters added first place in A class to her list of achievements with a score of 97 x 286.

Welshman Phil Morgan (pictured left) and Englishman Gerald Sweet shared equal first in AA class on a score of 96 x 285. Richard Hillier shared equal first in B class on a score of 95 x 278 and Roger Jones taking second place in C class on 93 x 263.

Overall High Gun of the series for the fourth year running was our very own Phil Morgan with a score of 886 x 900.  Well done Phil - top class again !

Click on either of the above pictures to load a more detailed photograph (may take some time loading on slower machines).

Another shoot was also run on that day and was the Final of the U.T. where another two Welsh shooters were amongst the prizes.  Chris Belcher winning his class and Nap Cook winning his class.  All winners of their respected classes in the winter series all collected £100.00 prize money.

Well, done to all the winners and best of luck to everyone for the Welsh Open Single Barrel Championship which be held at Mid Wales on the 12th March.
