January 2010 Shooter Profile - Welsh Sporting and Skeet Veteran Shooter - Llew David
Welcome to our ninth WCTSA shooter profile and our first for this new decade and we would like to introduce a personality that will be know throughout the skeet and sporting circuit in Wales - Llew David. Llew has shot for many years and as such has had many successes, including previously being voted WCTSA shooter of the year.
I'm sure you are looking forward to reading the full shooter profile - so over to Llew David:
Question 1. What disciplines do you shoot?
Llew>> I have shot most disciplines at one time or another but mostly shoot sporting and skeet.
Question 2. What type of gun are you using?
Llew>> I shot a Remington automatic for a while, then a
Winchester 5500 which I had for a long time and now I shoot a Perazzi.
Question 3. Is there a specific ammunition you favour or tend to use?
Llew>> I shoot a lot of felt/fibre shells as league and club shoots specify their use. I use R.C. fibre at the moment and if I use plastics on selection shoots I would use something like Eley Superbs.
Question 4. What's your background in shooting, when did you
start, where did you start?
Llew>> I shot around the farm with friends to start. The
County Ground Haverfordwest was my closest clay shooting ground and had most
disciplines. Crynant then opened as well and held sporting selections.
We shot D.T.L. in Whitland on bank holidays and quite a crowd would turn up.
Question 5. List of your achievements to date?
Llew>> I have shot Skeet and Sporting for Wales many times and
have won many cups, but I suppose winning a "bronze medal" at the World
championships in San Antonio Texas was one of the highs - as there were 15
teams taking part and all the Welsh sporting team won bronze medals (it was
brilliant).
Question 6. Most memorable shoot/performance?
Llew>> Being Veteran High Gun in Ireland and receiving the WCTSA
shooter of the year award in the same year.
Question 7. Who are your close shooting friends?
Llew>> I have so many shooting friends its difficult to answer.
Question 8. Influences, coaches or people who've helped your shooting?
Llew>> There were not many shooting coaches around years ago, so
shooters helped each other - so if you had a problem target you practised it.
Question 9. Top tip for your chosen discipline?
Llew>> Concentrate on the targets. Watch a few people
shoot before you take your turn and always take your time.
Question 10. What are your hopes for the future ?
Llew>> Shooting is a great sport that everyone can enjoy, so i
hope more will come into the sport.
Question 11. What are "your personal ambitions and goals" within shooting for the foreseeable future ?
Llew>> I hope I can enjoy my shooting for a long time to come ! As a founder member of Whitland Gun Club (which has been going for 40 years) I still enjoy seeing young members joining and that the club is as strong now as it ever was. Many of our club members have done very well in the sport.
Thanks Llew for a very interesting article from somebody who has been doing this sport for a good number of years. All of us here at the WCTSA would like to congratulate you for all the success you have had and wish that it continues for you into the future. I'm sure a lot of our younger shooters will take inspiration from your profile when they see the success and long term commitment you have to clay shooting.
100 OT Registered - Griffin-Lloyd Shooting Ground - Sunday 24th January 2010
An enjoyable day was had by all although cold it was good to shoot
without the snow and fog that we’ve all endeared over the last six week. The
log fires were stoked up well throughout the day so a good warm and chat was
enjoyed between rounds.
Changing light throughout the day made the targets challenging, this didn’t
deter Ian Parry-Belcher at the 50 targets stage was unstoppable and shot 50
straight – excellent shooting, but Clive Jones was keeping on his tail just
four targets behind on 46. All eyes on Ian PB in the next 50 who continued
to steam ahead finishing with high gun of the day with 96 and closely behind
Clive Jones and John Hall on 92.
Good to see four 25 straights on the scoreboard; Ian PB x 2, Clive Jones and
Mickey Weaver… well done guys.
Results:
A 1st Ian Parry-Belcher 96 B 1st John Hall 92 2nd Mickey Weaver 87 C 1st Clive Jones 92 D 1st Chris Jones 81

Are you sitting at home reading this column and wondering why your chosen discipline isn't getting any coverage with shoot reports again this month ?
Reports don't write themselves, so at your next shoot - write down a few names and scores, take a few pictures and when you get home - send us in a report for publishing. If we don't get sent shoot reports, your chosen discipline will never get anymore publicity - so don't leave it to somebody else - give it a go.
All we ask is you resize your pictures to 640x480 for transmitting - we do the rest - the spell checking, the proof reading and the publishing.

Third DTL Winter Series - SW2000 - 17th
January 2010
With shooters being snow bound for a week or more it was good see the change
in weather and shooters coming from across the border to participate.
The weather conditions were reasonable for the time year but with the light changing quickly this would make visibility hard to see the target.
Onto the shooting. At the 50 stage J.K. Price lead with a 148 closely followed by his mate T. Moseley 147 and Englishman G.T. Eltham 147. Hot out of the Xmas cracker was Gary Beagan who at the 75 stage was only 4 points light with Phil Morgan on 5 with the rest 2nd barrels would prove to be costly. John Campbell was on for 100 straight going in to his last round but the single miss and a barrel meant his score would fall out of the 290 bracket. All eyes were also on Beagan he could win the day hands down with a straight and put the sword to Morgan's unbeaten run of High Gun's at South Wales. Again a bird and a barrel would see him miss out on the opportunity.
