South Wales 2000 - 100 DTL - February 26th 2006

Three and a half squads braved the wind and the cold at South Wales for this 100 DTL event with a high gun prize of £50.00 at stake.  With a number of shooters from across the bridge turning out, you knew that the competition was going to be tough.  Delighted that this ground has persevered with DTL it means that there is another shooting ground within an easy drive for these shooters.  Not only does this ground boast Premier Plus status, there are a whole host of Sporting targets to be shot along with Skeet, O.T. U.T. and Double Trap at your disposal.

With the DTL angles coming in to the criteria of C.P.S.A. regulations you feel a sense of achievement when you as a competitor have shot well at targets thrown at 22 degrees.  A list of the winners is as follows:

1st C L.Durden 72 x 213
1st B A. Clough 93 X 270
2nd B G. Mcgaan 91 x 265
1st A R. Vaughan 92 x 264
1st AA R.O.Davies 99 x 288
2nd AA A.G.Dore 95 x 281

High Gun was won by Phil Morgan with a score of 98 x 291 winning the £50:00 that was on offer. Well done to all those who took part.

The next 100 DTL at South Wales 2000 will be on April 2nd which is the first of the Welsh Selection shoots.  To those of you who are going to shoot at this venue a word of advice - if you think as a shooter you are a good shot then from now until then, there is a 50 re entry on hand, on either a Saturday or a Sunday with an accumulator for the first one to shoot 50 x 150.  The accumulator currently stands at £50:00 pounds were it will stay until somebody wins it.  So for those of you out there who relish a challenge at good competitive targets feel free to come along and we wish you every success for these targets as they really are the bees knees if we as a Welsh DTL team are to compete anywhere near the standards of the English and the up and coming force to be reckoned with - the Irish.

Cardigan S.G. - 2nd Dyfed Sporting County Qualifier - February 25th 2006

A cold but dry day arrived for the 2nd Dyfed County Sporting Selection shoot.

This was a testing course at Cardigan Gun Club, but the targets were there to be hit if you stood back and examined what they were really doing.

Stands 4 and 5 were definitely the ones to put the scores on your card (even though there was a slight problem with the scoring on stand 4 which was rectified pretty quickly).

Stand 3 was the one to sort the men from the boys and whilst the majority of us struggled with the 1's, 2's and possibly the odd 3's, Allan Davies showed us all how to shoot it with a superb 6.  A hard stand where you may have found the targets, but then quickly lost them again. Some of us weren't even lucky enough to find them in the first place!

Allan also went on to shoot and win the Open with a 23ex30. Stands 1 and 2 had tricky little targets but again, there were shooters there who managed to read them and polish them off.

High guns of the day for the seniors were Bryan Phillips and Allan Davies both on 35ex50, the Veteran was Del Davies on 30ex50, Junior Bleddyn Lewis on 25, and top Lady was Carol Francis on 22.

The final county shoot will be at Brondai Shooting Ground on Saturday 11th March 12pm-3pm

Telpyn SG - 2nd Dyfed National Skeet County Qualifier - February 19th 2006

Twenty four shooters endured the bitterly cold wind at Telpyn SG to take part in the second of the Dyfed National Skeet team selection shoots.

St.Davids 'Twitcher', Lyndon Lomax, called upon his years of shooting experience to score an excellent 47ex50 to win the shoot jointly with Dai Francis, Dai having also won the previous shoot with 49ex50. Jeff Corcoran followed with a 46, with veteran Chris Potter, junior Shane Wilson and Angie goodman all on 45ex50. Junior Lloyd Evans from Llangynnog normally shoots DTL but fancied a change of disciplines and shot 34ex50, ending with a very convincing 20 out of his last 25 targets. A very good performance considering he had only shot skeet once before, a name to look out for in the future.

The 3rd and last selection shoot will be held on the 4th March at Telpyn SG, Amroth.  Lets hope the weather will be kinder on that day.

South Wales 2000 - 50 DTL Re-Entry (Accumulator) - February 12th 2006

A few guns turned out for this event on a misty Sunday morning.

Leading the way after the first 50 targets had been shot were Tony Clough and Phil Morgan with a score of 142 x 150. You may look upon this as a poor score but under the conditions dealing with mist and a strong rear breeze that was a hard fought score. Tony Dore from the other side of the Severn visited and on his second 50 target effort posted a 146 x 150 and lead the field.

Morgan and Clough tried again with Clough being unsuccessful on his attempt and Morgan could only go 2 points better than last time 144 x 150.

Winners for the day was High Gun - Tony Dore and in second place was Phil Morgan.

With no one shooting the 50 x 150 the accumulator rolls over to £40.00 next weekend.

Southern Counties - 100 DTL - 4th Winter Series - February 5th 2006

16 Welsh shooters ascended upon Southern Counties for this their 4th winter series shoot.

At the 50 stage it was none other than Tony Clough lying in 2nd place on 50 x 147, hot on the heels of English man Pete Bugler who was on a 50 x 148.

Conditions were excellent for this event and there really was no excuse for missing other than operator error.

Clough shooting a poor third round slumped to third in the pecking order, but managed to pull himself together for the final round posting a 25 x 75 . So it was P.Bugler and G.Eltham with a 98 and 99 x 293 taking joint 1st in AA. T.Clough winning B class on 98 x 291 with another Welsh man Bob Chivers taking 2nd in that class with 97 x 285 - this being the first time Bob had shot at this ground and by the looks of it he will enjoy a return visit. Our very own John Evans took 2nd place honours in A class with 97 x  288 and Roger Jones having 2nd place in C class with 98 x 283 - a personal best for him.

Unfortunately the other Welsh shooters shot below par, but better luck next time. Well done to all those who took part and chin up for the last one on March 5th.

Telpyn SG - 1st Dyfed National Skeet County Qualifier - February 4th 2006

Dyfed skeet shooters were pleasantly surprised when they arrived at Telpyn SG for the first of this years Dyfed National Skeet qualifiers.  Rob and Shirley Phillips had refurbished the clubhouse in readiness for the 2006 season with the help of Olympic Skeet shooter Tony Grove.

The weather was kind to the shooters, being cold but dry and calm - ensuring good quality targets for everyone.

Dai and Carol Francis together with Angie Goodman took full advantage of the conditions, all three returning scores of 49ex50 one target ahead of Gerald Ingram on 48.  Tenby rugby player Lee tucker, who has only recently started shooting skeet, finished with an excellent 47ex50 with veterans Lyndon Lomax and Chris Potter both on 46. Two juniors for the team selection this year are Shane Wilson from Crosshands and Edward Poore from Whitland, Shane returning a score of 45, ahead of Edward on 42.

With another two selection shoots still to come, we will have to wait and see who triumphs next time

------------------------------------------------

A big thanks to Angie Goodman for the numerous skeet and sporting reports and the regular DTL submissions from our former DTL British Champion - Phil Morgan.
