Olympic Skeet Selection Shoots 1 & 2 Last weekend

Olympic Skeet Selection Shoots 1 & 2

Last weekend saw the first two of this year’s selection shoots for Olympic Skeet. We were well looked after by Jackie and Tracey at Griffin Lloyd. There was a good turn out on the Saturday with three squads and 16 entries. The weather didn’t disappoint, there was a chill wind… but the sun was strong with some heat in it. The day ended with some rosy cheeks and red forearms. Despite starting prompt at 10.00am the competition didn’t complete until late in the afternoon. The top score of 84 on the day went to Tony Cox. With Wyndham Howells a close second on 82.

The following day was a return to a winter chill at Griffin Lloyd, fortunately the rain stayed away. There were only 10 shooters on two squads and competition was over just after 2.00pm.

Top shot again went to Tony with a score of 90 on the day. Tension was in the air as Jo Hockly qualified with an MQS on her last two targets. Well done Jo !

Had a pretty successful weekend for the first 2 welsh OT selection shoots.i am extremely chuffed to be high gun on both days with a score of 92 and 93. They were testing targets set by @fauxdegla and made more challenging due to the wind and cold.

Congratulations to all the class winners and also to @rob_lewis_clay_shooter for an amazing score of 93 as well on the Sunday, certainly one to watch out for.

A Day of highs and lows for me today at the 2nd Welsh Selection at Fauxdegla, started like a train on the first line with a 25 straight followed by a 24 and a 23, 72 at 75 but I let myself down with a disappointing 19 on my last line finishing on 91, a decent score but I'm just disappointed with the finish still won my class and 2nd Welsh so I shouldn't complain really

☀️ Malaga European Championships! ☀️

What an incredible experience and learning curve to represent GB at the European Championships in Malaga. The range and difficulty of targets has been exceptional, with countless targets that left me wondering where to start 🤯

Each day posed new challenges, from wind to some outrageously technical birds. I struggled to settle into the shoot, with a constant flow of poor mistakes which quickly accumulated. Only after experimenting with barrel weights on the final day did I begin to settle and smash the clays I know I can.

There is no doubt in my mind that I have a huge amount to learn and plenty of more mistakes to make, but I am extremely excited to face the challenges posed by future competitions. It has been an honour to shoot with the GB flag on my back on such a huge stage, facing without a doubt the most challenging and punishing 200 birds I have ever competed in. The lessons I have learned have been invaluable and I strongly feel that future international comps will fall more in my favour!

Huge Congratulations to my team mates Rhys Harrison and Ali Turnbull for an awesome performance against some formidable opposition. I hope to get out in my GB vest again very soon!

Great to be back at East Yorkshire for the first shotgun series of 2024! Some solid practice on Friday, with scores well into the 20s but not to be replicated in competition unfortunately…
