NEWS / REPORTS DECEMBER 2006
Southern Counties - 150 DTL - Dec 31st 200636 shooters braved the gale force winds that greeted them at Southern Counties. Each shooter hoping that they would be dealt enough targets which weren't affected by the wind - compared to their competitors. All entrants were in with the chance of winning the £100.00 purse that was up for the High Gun prize.
Welshman Phil Morgan disposed of the first 100 targets successfully - with only four second barrels. Phil took the lead with a six point cushion over his nearest rival Tony Dore (who was lying second).
At the 125 stage Morgan made a hash of things by dropping two full targets and two barrels, handing Tony Dore the lead by a single point with one only round to shoot.
Dore shot 67 x 75 on his last round and finished 19 points down out of a possible 450 ending 147 x 431.
Morgan posted a 69 x 75 in his last round giving 146 x 432 - a single point above Dore thus claiming the High Gun prize. Congratulations to Phil our current British Open Champion - a fine finish to an excellent season.
Welsh Lady shooter Anne Butler also made the journey and took 2nd in B class
with 129 x 384, which also made her the highest scoring lady shooter on the
day. Congratulations Anne, excellent shooting.
A Happy New Year to you all & the Very Best For 2007

Mid Wales Shooting Centre - 100 DTL (3rd Winter Series) - Dec 27th 2006
19 squads braved the dull and damp conditions that greeted the
shooters. Most were probably glad to get out of the house and PULL the
trigger.
It was Paul Hodges (a regular at Mid Wales) who set the early pace puffing the first 50 targets to give him a maximum score of 50 x 150. Glyn Jenkins & Phil Morgan were in hot pursuit with 50 x 149. Paul Berry (another regular) was at 50 x 148.
Hodges again smoked his next 25 targets to put added pressure on the chasing pack, but Jenkins and Morgan also put in a clear 3rd round - which kept the pressure on (along with Berry).
All eyes were on Hodges as he had never done the MAGIC before at Mid Wales, but barrelling the first target out on the last round put the sword to the 300. That was the only point he dropped and with that finished 100 x 299. Jenkins and Morgan both barrelling a bird in the last tied to finish 100 x 298. Paul Berry was also on for a 298, but blew his chances of the 100 straight by missing a full target and finished on a 99 x 295.
H/G P. Hodges 100 X 299
Joint 1st & 2nd AA G.Jenkins & P.Morgan 100 X
298.
3rd C R.C. Jones 98 x 284.
Karla Jones one of our young lady shooters shot a 94 x 274 - one to keep an eye out for the future I dare say.
I haven't put all the winners down sorry (but couldn't remember everyone).
HAPPY NEW YEAR TO ALL.

South Wales 2000 - 100 DTL - Dec 17th 2006
Brendan Jones led the way at the fifty stage on 50 x 149. Hot on his heels
after recent success at the Inter Counties final was Gary Beagan with 50 x
145.
Into the third stage and with Gary shooting a perfect round and Brendan dropping a target and two second barrels - it put Beagan into the lead by a point.
Going into the last round and Beagan was on for another 100 straight, but missed his 90th target and Jones only barrelled a target, which handed victory to Jones who finished on 99 x 293 and Beagan finished on 99 x 292. Third overall on the day was Russell Vaughan with 95 x 280.
Thanks to everyone who turned out.
Next 100 D.T.L. registered shoot at South Wales 2000 is on January 21st 2007.

Southern Counties Shooting Ground - 100 DTL (2nd Winter Series) - December 3rd 2006
A strong wind greeted us at the ground on arrival, so we knew the targets were going to be testing.
Phil Morgan and Pete Bugler were the only two shooters to score a 25 x 75 out of the 36 competitors that braved the conditions.
At the 50 stage Phil Morgan was out in front with a 147 x 150, with Tony Dore on 142 x 150 and Pete Bugler and M. Abrams on 140 x 150.
With Phil's wife Gail on a high after registering her personal best at Mid Wales the week before on a 98 x 279 - she led C class with 132 x 150.
At the 75 stage Phil Morgan was on 220 x 225 now only having a 5 point cushion going into the last round.
Phil missed his first bird out on the last line and added unnecessary pressure - not knowing what Bugler had finished on.
Dropping another two points along the way Phil finished on 98 x 290, a point above Bugler 289 - which was enough to clinch H/G.
Phil's wife Gail was annoyed that he had booked her down for birds only as she would have shared top honours in C class with 88 x 252 (sorry darling) !!!
Tony Clough took 2nd in B with 88 x 256 and Roger Jones had 2nd in C with 88 x 248.
Well, done to all.
Some key dates for the future:
