Introduction

The last County Final of the year was held on the 18th October 2009.   Mid Wales Shooting centre kindly hosted this final event - the All Round County Final.

This year an amazing 18 squads were in competition, which was one more than last years Final.  That is testament to the fine work the County Co-ordinators do before these finals.

Around the Ground

Angie and her camera had been busy this year around the ground, here is a pictorial storyboard of the day:

The Shoot and Results

Powys were looking to retain the County shield and with scores of 95 coming in from Dorian Evans it was looking really possible.  Dorian's tremendous score secured him the title of Senior High Gun for the competition, a clear 4 clays from his nearest competitor.

Last years winner of the Captains Cup was Dorian so he just swapped one trophy for another this year.

This year the Captains cup was a much closer thing with 4 shooters all within one clay of each other.  Meredith Owens from Dyfed on 87, Ken Griffiths from Gwynedd 88, and Richard Morris from Powys on 89 but it was the Veteran from Gwent, Geoff Seaborne, who showed the youngsters how it was done with a great score of 90 to take not only the Captains Cup but also the Veterans Cup just piping our very own Chairman, Daff Davies, by two clays.

The older boys obviously had the staying power! Geoff was going home with a boot-full of trophies and shields as along with his Veteran team mate Alan Parkin they also won the Veterans team shield for Gwent.

This year also saw a change of name on the Ladies High Gun cup with that also going back to Gwent with Nicky Evans who shot a superb 87, shooting nothing under 21 in the four rounds. Well shot Nicky!

Yet again, up and coming Colt Sion Evans from Gwynedd (who was profiled on our web site back in May) - produced the goods on the day and took home another trophy with a tremendous score of 68.  Keep it up Sion!

A couple more years time and Sion will be contesting Andrew Davey from West Glamorgan, who this year was the Junior High Gun winner with a score of 82. A bit of pressure never hurt anyone!  Andrew had also teamed up with Natalie Davies and the pair of them took the Junior Team shield back to West Glamorgan, a clear 19 clays in front of their nearest contenders.

West Glamorgan were unable to field a Junior Team last year, so it was a nice to see them put a team in and take the title for the first time - well done both.

It was a little closer for the Ladies team with Dyfed retaining the title but only by 11 clays this year. Carol Francis and Rose Owen joined forces for the first time in this competition but they still had the winning formula.

With the scores coming in thick and fast, and many people desperately trying to work out their County final positions, it was left up to the office staff to get down to doing the sums.  Powys had done it again!  But the gap was narrower than last years results, with Gwent putting up a marvellous challenge to finish 2nd place.

Thank You

Many thanks must go to Mid Wales Shooting Centre and their staff for all their hard in making the day another memorable one for everyone, winners and losers, old and young.  Well done to all the new caps.

Many thanks to all the Co-ordinators for all their hard work getting teams together and to Huw Evans for stepping in very last minute for Clwyds co-ordinator.

We must also thank Angie Goodman for all the work that she puts into preparing and organising all the county finals, the last one being just as successful as all the others.

Hope to see you all next year!
